Layby deposits, instalments and collection
Layby reserves goods while a customer pays over time before collection. Unlike a held basket, it contains payments and an outstanding balance.
Steps
- Add goods in POS, choose New Layby in Other Functions, enter the customer details and proceed to the deposit.
- Enter the payment, check any minimum-deposit requirement and record the Layby number and remaining balance.
- For another payment, select the original Layby in POS or Back Office → POS → Layby Management. Recheck its current server status and balance.
- Do not exceed the remaining balance. Once paid, mark collection only when goods are actually handed over and verify the resulting sale and stock movement.
- For abandonment, have the manager check the store agreement and use the appropriate cancellation/default workflow with the correct refund. Do not record each instalment as a separate goods sale.
Deposits, instalments, balance and the final collection sale can all be traced to one Layby.
Layby requires an online connection. Stored value and vouchers are not supported for its deposit/instalment flow. Charges depend on the store’s applicable agreement and configuration.
